10 Tips For Maintaining A Healthy Lawn

0

Spring is here and cold and cloudy weather is giving way to sunshine and warmth. It means you’ll be spending more time outside and will undoubtedly want to get your lawn looking great.

Check out our tips for keeping a healthy lawn this Spring

1.  Ensure that you provide your lawn with enough nutrients and water. If your lawn becomes dry and brown you might have to replant it. Prevention is better than cure with lawns.
2 Be proactive with your lawn. Ensure that when you spot a problem – solve it quickly. Leaving the problem will result in damage and in most cases a lot of time and money to fix.
3.  Mow your lawn at the highest level on your lawnmover. By doing this you will ensure that growth can be accelerated and that you only remove the top.
4. Ensure that you water your lawn adequately. Surface water will dissipate quickly and leave your lawn looking brown. If you water the lawn to ensure that the deeo roots are moisturized it will ensure that your lawn will grow and look pretty.
5.Don’t throw the cuttings away but rather keep them on the lawn to ensure that they become natural compost for your lawn
6. Ensure that your lawn is cut properly. Ie. the edges that hang over bricks/paving are cut with a weed eater. A green lawn has the potential to add value to your house and surroundings
7. Train your dog to use a specified area to pass / discharge their food intake. Dog excrement has the potential to add brown stains to a healthy lawn.
8. Ensure that your lawn has at least 0.5 meter space from other plants. This will ensure that nutrients can be absorbed otherwise the plant/s may cause the lawn to die.
9. Healthy lawns encourage a healthy environment.  Lawns act as a carbon dioxide converter and also filters rainwater before it reaches groundwater.
10. Do not hesistate to go to your local horticulturist if your lawn is not growing normally, Lawn should grow between  5 – 15cm per month.
