5 Movies You Need to Watch in June 2018

0

May was jam-packed with big comic-book movies and superhero outings, but this June, while featuring a bit less spandex, is still brimmed with some exciting big-screen outings!

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Release date: 8 June

Why do people keep visiting this island!? Either way, another Jurassic Park is on the way, and this time, it’s a sequel to 2015’s Jurassic World. Chris Pratt’s Owen and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire have to team up once again and return to the iconic yet deadly island to try and round up the remaining dinosaurs before some other greedy individuals get their hands on the prehistoric beasts. Expect the usual high-octane fare with a lot of action, dinosaur shenanigans and a healthy dose of Jeff Goldblum.

The Incredibles 2

Release date: 15 June

Fourteen years after the original Incredibles, one of Pixar’s most well-received titles finally gets its sequel this month. The Parr family returns to action once again, trying to balance the rigours of American suburban life with the responsibility of keeping the world safe from danger. Pixar looks to have achieved the same tone, excitement, and humour with the follow-up, so this is sure to be a must-watch film to earmark this month!

Hereditary

Release date: 15 June

If you like your horror more psychological than gore-filled, Hereditary looks to be a winner this month. The film stars stars Toni Collette as a parent whose mother passes away, and following the event, her own family begins to discover sinister secrets about their recently deceased grandmother, and a curse that seems destined to claim the family. This definitely isn’t going to be for the faint of heart, but it seems like it’s going to be a more psychologically-based horror than an all-out gore and fright-fest.

Ocean’s Eight

Release date: 22 June

While this reboot of the iconic Ocean’s heist franchise features an all-new cast, it’s no less star-studded. Led by Sandra Bullock, the film follows a new crew, including Cate Blanchett, who aim to pull off  another high-tech and overly intricate plan to snag a high-profile piece of jewellery. As with the previous Ocean’s movies, what seems like a fairly straight forward heist caper always has some kind of twist or turn that will keep viewers on their toes, and that trend is unlikely to disappear with Ocean’s 8.

Tag

Release date: 29 June

While everyone sees a game of tag as a silly kid’s pastime, it’s a whole lot more in this film, which stars Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms, Jon Hamm, and Hannibal Buress, as friends who engage a month-long game of tag to relive their childhood antics. What makes the movie even more intriguing is that it’s based on a true story that was run by the Wall Street Journal. Quirky comedies are dime a dozen, but this one’s novel approach should mean it has something fresh to offer.
