2016 may have seen advancements in ground-breaking technology like virtual reality, but 2017 is shaping up to have plenty of it’s own surprises.

Scan your meal and know everything about it
Ever sat down for a meal and wondered about it’s nutritional value? DietSensor have released a bluetooth-enabled molecular sensor that uses infrared spectroscopy to determine the chemical makeup of your meal. The device gives detailed information on the food like fat content, carbohydrates, sugars and other nutritional value. Also, the device can track your daily meals and give you diet advice based upon what you’ve been eating.
BearBot will change how we interact with devices
Originally created by the team at Mu Design in December 2015, the BearBot is a completely new take on the remote control. The device uses hand gestures to control devices such as changing channels on your TV, adjusting the sound on your radio or dimming the lights in your home.
The e-shower is coming to fight against water wastage
Water shortages are a real problem that future generations are going to have to cope with, and some tech companies are looking to help save as much water as they can. The e-shower works by capturing the water in the shower tray which is then filtered using UV light to destroy all bacteria in the water before it is used again.
X-ray pills could be used to detect cancers
Bioengineering company Check-Cap LTD are looking to utilise a new kind of x-ray technology to detect cancer in it’s earliest stages. Once swallowed the capsule emits a 360-degree radiation which maps the topography of the stomach and bowels, which can then be used to create a 3D mapping of the patients bowels to see if any irregularities are present.
Pay phones could be transformed into WiFi hotspots
As smartphones are becoming more prevalent across the globe devices like pay phones are soon going to be completely obsolete. Current New York mayor Bill de Blasio is looking to put the areas occupied by pay phones to good use as he has put forward a plan top convert the cities approximately 7200 pay phones into WiFi hotspots. This is part of a city-wide initiative to supply every citizen of New York with free WiFi access.
Drones are going to the next level
While drones have been around for awhile now, a Chinese company has unveiled a drone that does more than just fly and take pictures. The all-electric Ehang Passenger Drone has been cleared for testing in Nevada, and hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot more of this drone in 2017.
