Do you ever wish you could travel and see great places like they do on Top Billing? Have you ever thought about going somewhere fun or partaking in really awesome activities? PriceCheck is making it easy for you to choose something exhilarating and fun to do in your very own city. This will be a 4-part series on fun activities to do and try out in a city near you. To kick things off we have decided to start with Cape Town – the Mother City!
Animals and the mystery of the wild have always brought people to Africa. Cape Town offers not only mystery but also THE BIG 5! Visiting the game reserve in Worcester will give you the opportunity to see these majestic creatures. The big five include Elephants, Lions, Rhino’s, Leopards and also the Buffalo. A special Safari lunch is also included in this tour! And don’t worry; you won’t be served as the lunch! J You may also want to check out Aquila Game Reserve while in Cape Town.
We all know Tannie Evita and her now famous babotie! Evita Bezuidenhout, a character created by Pieter-Dirk Uys, not only has her own cook book but owns a restaurant as well. Evita se Perron is situated in Darling and is only one hours drive from Cape Town. It is famous for Tannie Evita’s very own boerekos and amazing wine. Evita se Perron is a combination of a theatre that houses 80 people, a restaurant-bar in the form of Perron number 2 and Evita se kombuis (kitchen) in which all the wonderful traditional dishes are prepared. This is a trip all South African’s should make.
Shark Cage Diving has become a hair-raising experience not to be missed and Cape Town is definitely the place to be if you decide to do it! Seeing a shark up close and personal will definitely get your adrenaline pumping for sure. However, as curious as these creatures are they won’t attack the cage, so you don’t have to worry. Pick up and drop off takes place in the Cape Town City Bowl depending on the package you select. Shark cage diving is a popular choice as you can enjoy Cape Town’s magnificent beaches at the same time.
As mentioned above Cape Town’s beaches cannot be dismissed or left out as part of this list! The Mother City has amazing beaches and you simply HAVE to experience them. Boulders Beach, which is aptly named after the enormous granite boulders, is one of the best places to swim. It is situated in Simon’s Town (if you think it’s too far – why not make a full day of it and take the train as part of the adventure) and is home to the African Penguin. Where else can you relax and get a tan with family, friends and the penguins?
How often do you go tobogganing? Never? Well, try it out this summer. Cool-Runnings is the first downhill toboggan run in Africa. The track can be found opposite Bellville Velodrome in Tygervalley and provides the ultimate in safe, high speed bobsled on wheels. The track is 1.25km and the speed is regulated by the rider – if that is a concern to you. The track is open from midday on Tuesdays to Friday. This is great entertainment for the entire family and is definitely something fun to do in Cape Town.
Something really fun and fabulous is Old Mac Daddy Trailer Hotel. It is one of Jack Parow’s, our very own rap star’s, favourite places. It is a place for relaxation and a chance to totally escape for a while. The trailers are fully catered and offer themed bathrooms, inviting living spaces and a communal dining area. You can also make use of the swimming pool, visit the Grolsch bar or simply explore the surrounding area.
The trailer hotel is situated in the corner of the Elgin Valley and each individual trailer was designed by an artist, creative or designer living in Cape Town. You will not only get a chance to relax and have fun but also appreciate local design talent.
Be sure to check out all this and more when you are next in Cape Town. For those of you, who are originally from the Mother City, be sure to explore more and do these activities if you have not done them before. Explore and travel in your own city!
