It is not often that a great product is made, and when they do they create new industries. Think back 5 years; no iPhone accessories, iPad accessories and Samsung Galaxy accessory based businesses existed.
The next big industry is without a doubt going to be smart phone batteries. It will either be a case of one manufacturer (Google, Microsoft, Apple or Samsung) dominating or a completely new player building something revolutionary. In that case it will become a bidding war for the respective businesses.
At the moment the battery pack industry is also a mix of great and not so great businesses. Mophie is clearly the market leader in this space but I have a feeling more entrants will enter the space. There is a huge opportunity to create technology that would make users lives easier but the barriers to entry must be millions of dollars of research and development costs, right?
The smart phone is here to stay so the first mover advantage in terms of good battery life is massive. Think about it, word of mouth marketing will lead to sales as good battery life is a must-have feature for most cellphone owners. So who will be the saviour for smart phone owners?
