Buying Guide: 3 Games to Play in September 2019

0

With September rolling in, so do a flurry of new video game releases. As is the case with every September, we’re lining up to tackle the new FIFA entry, along with the return of two big-name franchises. Here’s what you need to know about the top game releases this month:

FIFA 20

Release date: 28 September 2019 (Xbox One | PS4 | PC | Switch)

At this point, you know to expect with FIFA, but FIFA 20 adds a few new modes to the formula, which is a nice change that the franchise that, quite arguably, has been needing. The most exciting new addition, Volta, is essentially a 5-a-side mode akin to the FIFA Street titles of yesteryear, and it’s about damn time that EA Sport decided to bundle this beloved spin-off gameplay style unto their main FIFA franchise.

Gears 5

Release date: 10 September 2019 (Xbox One | PC)

We’ve seen a fair bit of Gears of War 5 (which is seemingly now just being called Gears 5) since its reveal, but there’s definitely an air of mystery around the campaign. Shifting away from the characters of Marcus and JD Fenix (who headed up previous Gears titles),the new entry puts Kait from Gears 4 front-and-centre, as she, Marcus, and the rest of the gang tackle a dangerous journey to get to the bottom of Kait’s mysterious connection to the Locust. New brutal weapons, meaner enemies, and some exciting new snow-capped locations await players in Gears 5.

Borderlands 3

Release date: 13 September 2019 (Xbox One | PS4 | PC | Stadia)

The zany, random-gun-generating loot-shooter Borderlands is back for a third primary entry, returning to the ravaged yet colourful world of Pandora (and a host of other planets) for another shooting bonanza. Players can take control of a whole new set of vault-hunters, but familiar faces from past games will also be making appearances. You’ll be able to travel to different worlds using your own spacecraft, and there’ll be a ton of trickier and crazier enemies to hunt down and kill – thankfully, the game still leans heavily on online or offline co-op, so you and some buddies can tackle the chaos together.
