Buying Guide: Xbox One vs PS4 - On Check by PriceCheck

Microsoft and Sony are at it again; releasing gaming consoles that are pretty much on par when it comes to technical specifications and playability.

Thing is, if you’re considering a gaming console upgrade, or simply investing in one for the first time – what should you consider before forking out a hefty sum of money? Price will probably not be a deciding factor, considering that a PS4 and Kinectfree Xbox One retail at very similar prices.

Other features that come into play include graphics, CPU processors, memory, TMU, design, weight, control usability, accessories and so forth. (See graphic below comparing the technical differences between the two consoles.)

Another thing to keep in mind is that Microsoft and Xbox release new versions of their gaming consoles every 18-24 months, and according to an avid gaming source, one can expect, at most, a 5-year gaming console lifespan before upgrading. Microsoft and Sony also have a following, so speak to other gamers and read up on reviews online. Despite games like Need for Speed, Call of Duty and other popular games being available for both consoles, the user experience is different. PS4 controls, for one are a lot easier to use (if you started gaming on Sony machines), and with the planned release of Project Morpheus – an Oculus-rift style gaming headset for a virtual reality gaming experience – I’m definitely partial to Sony. But in Microsoft’s defence I will admit that in the long run, Xbox One is the economical choice when taking games and gaming accessory costs into account.

Another consideration is which eco-system you are already in. If you own an older Xbox or PlayStation, you need to decide whether the new offerings are worth jumping ship for.

If you are still unsure, consider the most important aspect of gaming – which console caters best to the games you like to play and take it from there.
