From this week, South Africa welcomed the Apple 5S and 5C iPhone. Rather good looking stocking fillers in my opinion (hint hint to anyone I know reading this)! With payday coming up, as well as the festive season, maybe a few cellular contract renewals and for those lucky ones – an end of year bonus, these phones may be very appealing, but here’s the dilemma – which one do you go for?
They are both of a very high quality when it comes to smartphones and obviously running on iOS. There is a significant price difference between the two models though, with the 5C being reasonably cheaper. But there is nothing particularly “cheap” about the phone. For anyone who is currently happy with either their iPhone 4, 4S or 5, but may be wanting a bit of a change or have an upgrade coming up and not too overly concerned about not having the cutting edge in tech, then the 5C is for you. Oh, and not to mention all the really fun colours they come in. You can really find the one that suits you, and Apple have said themselves – “It’s not just for lovers of colour. It’s for the colourful.”
Now onto the main event – the 5S. There are a range of differences between these two new phones, things like the 5S’s very impressive camera and flash, but what really sets this phone apart and gives it the push in price is its A7 system-on-a-chip and M7 motion coprocessor. Now, at the moment this is more of a ‘gimmick’ per say, but very soon, app developers will start designing software intended specifically to leverage the A7’s 64-bit processing power, and power-saving/motion tracking features made possible with the M7, which if you would like to take advantage of, then you will need to rather consider the 5S. So in my opinion, with regards to the 5S, I would say the best is yet to come. (Oh and did I mention it comes in gold?)
Bottom line, this is a decision that only you can truly make, you and your budget, and hey that decision may even just be Android!
