movemberlogoMovember is an initiative founded by an independent global charity, the Movember Foundation. The Movember Foundation is dedicated to creating awareness, showing support but most importantly to raise funds towards cancer research and treatments, specifically for men suffering from prostate and testicular cancer, and mental health.

Mo Sistas showing support.

Signing up as a Mo Bro is as simple as registering on the Movember.com website, thus allowing you to join an online Mo Bro community by sharing photos and stories about your mo-journey. Women can also sign up as Mo Sistas, and are deeply encouraged to do so, in support of all the men making the sacrifice, to represent the cause as a human billboard. Mo Sistas play a huge role in keeping Mo Bros motivated, especially when their moustaches and beards needs some grooming, or when their friends’ mo’s grows faster than theirs. So, compliment them often, and remind them of the reason behind the sacrifice.

The Movember website also contains a lot of information about prostate and testicular cancer and mental health, awareness and research, as well as insight on their funded programmes, mission statement, financials, and basically anything concerning their cause.

Prostate cancer is generally uncommon in males under 40, but it is highly recommended by physicians that men in their twenties and thirties have their prostate checked every few years, as a precaution, especially if there is a history of cancer in their family.

Men can also do testicular self-examinations in the privacy of their own home. A Google search or a discussion with your physician will give you guidance on the best method of performing a testicular self-examination.

We’re a week into the annual Movember challenge, and if you haven’t started yet – better late than never…
