0

Known only as Android N, we predict the latest from the world’s most popular operating system to be packed with new and interesting features.

A beta version of the OS is currently available for download at the Android website, but the official software is still six months from release. Until then, here are some of the best features that are set to be included in Android N.

Split-screen support

The lack of multitasking has always been one of Android’s biggest drawbacks, which is why split-screen was a main priority when developing Android N.

It’s not only tablets that will get split-screen functionality, Android smartphones such as the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 will also be able to use the feature.

New and improved notifications

The notifications have been completely revamped for Android N, with a full-width design and smaller icons  that results in a much better use of space and increased functionality.

Some of the more functional features are how you can press on a notification and expand on it for more information, or you can block future notifications from that particular app in the future.

Virtual reality ready

Following on the success of Google Cardboard, the entirely Android-powered Google Daydream is going to be a big part of the competed Android N OS.

Take full advantage of Android’s new VR functionality (you’ll need a Daydream-certified phone and headset). On a side note – Google have only released reference designs for it’s headset, but have stated that they are working on a final prototype and are also busy developing VR content for release.

New emoji

Everyone loves emoji; and while this is not really a revolutionary update, Android N have updated their emoji to look more uniform and have reported to be working on 13 new emoji which will better represent professional women in the workplace.
