Jabra Elite Sport

These truly wireless earbuds are fully waterproof with a built-in heart-rate monitor. If you can get a good seal – the size might not fit everyone’s ears – then you’ll get quite good sound. They can be used as single or stereo buds and provide up to 4.5 hours battery life on a single charge.  When you need to charge your earbuds, simply pop them into the carry / charging case.

Cost: From R3595.00

Bose SoundSport Wireless

The SoundSport Wireless are comfortable in-ear wireless Bluetooth sports headphones that are sweat-resistant and have the great sound you’ve come to expect from Bose. You’ll get a fairly secure fit thanks to the included winged tips. You can connect to your device via Bluetooth and NFC, and listen to your music for up to 6 hours per charge.

Cost: R2895.00

Jaybird X3 Sport

The Jaybird X3 wireless sports headphones are smaller than the previous generation X2 thanks to the improved battery life (up to 8 hours), sounds very good sound for in-ear Bluetooth headphones. They’re also sweat resistant and come with a protective carrying pouch.

Jaybird has also included a clip to attach the headphones to the back of your shirt, which helps keep them more stable when working out.

The X3 comes with a small charging accessory that connects to a Micro-USB cable which you clip onto the inline remote. This is how you charge the headphones but the accessory is easy to lose because of its size.

Cost: R5199.00

BeatsX

If you’re enamoured with Apple’s AirPods but want them in a more sports friendly form factor then the BeatsX are for you.

They’re comfortable, lightweight and water-resistant. The neckband-style bluetooth headphones have a fairly secure in-ear fit and good sound quality. Thanks to the magic of the W1 chip, it pairs instantly – and far easier –  with Apple devices. It also rolls up to fit in the included carrying case, and charges using via Lightning cable and not MicroUSB, making them a perfect option for loyal Apple users.

Cost: From R2399.00

Plantronics Backbeat Fit

Plantronics’ Backbeat Fit is a lightweight wireless pair of headphones (with an integrated microphone) with a sweatproof design and decent sound. It has a secure fit and on the whole, most people should find them fairly comfortable to wear.

The cord around the back of the neck can flop around while you’re running, which could end up being annoying for most people. They weigh only 24g and can last up to 8 hours on a single charge.

Cost: From R1399.00

Apple AirPods

Apple’s first wireless earphones might be a bit of a surprise on this list but thanks to the battery life – which is extended every time you put the earphones in the carrying / charging case and ease of pairing, they hold their own as one of the better pairs of wireless earbuds.

If Apple’s wired EarPods fit in your ears securely then these will too, which means that in that case, you won’t have to worry about losing them.

Sound is slightly improved when compared to EarPods however the lack of volume and play / pause controls makes these earbuds slightly less user friendly than you’d expect, however if you can live with either having to pull your phone out to change songs or asking Siri to do it for you, you’ll be one of the many people who have grown to love these.

Cost: From R2499.00
