Selling your phone? Do these things first

0

It’s that time of year when all the big names get ready to release new smartphones. Nokia, Samsung and LG are all releasing new flagship devices this month and Apple is expected to announce 3 new iPhones in September.

If you’re like me and considering getting rid of your current (soon to be old) phone, then there are a few things that you need to do first:

  • Back up all of your data, including contacts and even your WhatsApp messages (most of these can be backed up to your Cloud Drive – either Google Drive or iCloud)
  • Remove the SIM card and microSD card if there’s one
  • Log out of services like email, social media, Uber and any banking apps, then clear the data from these apps if you’re able to.
  • Keep the serial number and IMEI number (which can be found by dialling *#06# on your phone) of the phone.

How to factory reset your Android device:

  1. Open your phone’s Settings app Settings.
  2. Depending on the make of Android phone, you’ll find Backup & reset under “Personal” or “Advanced Setting” or “General management.”
  3. Tap Factory data reset and then Reset phone . You’ll be prompted to enter your PIN, pattern, or password.
  4. To erase all data from your device’s internal storage, tap Erase everything.

How to factory reset your iPhone:

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > General > Reset. Then tap Erase All Content and Settings.

Before you erase your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 10, make sure that you sign out of iCloud. Otherwise, your device might remain in Activation Lock.

  • In iOS 10.3 or later, go to Settings > [your name]> Sign Out.
  • In iOS 10.2 or earlier, go to Settings > iCloud > Sign Out.

Before listing your phone for sale, take photos which show off the best angles of your device. These will help prospective customers make a decision as to whether or not they want to buy it. Be honest about any scratches, scuffs or dents on the phone.

Research the cost of other sites and people selling the same model of your phone, this will help you determine a fair price to charge.
