The skincare market offers today’s men and women a wide range of innovative products geared towards giving you the skin of your dreams. But, with all this choice, figuring out which products to use on your skin can be confusing. For example, what’s the difference between a skin oil, serum, and a concentrate? Optiphi product expert, Stephanie-Anne gives us the lowdown on the differences of each of these products, and how to add it to your skincare regime:
Oils
Formulated to provide lipids to the skin for extra nourishment, face oils usually contain plant extracts and essential oils, The product is conventionally used to treat the outer layers of the skin and is applied after a moisturiser to help to lock in the benefits of the moisturiser. Oils are brilliant for treating oil-dry skin, mature skin, as well as skin’s exposed to very cold temperatures.
Serums
Serums are most often used to boost an existing skincare regime or to target a specific problem, such as wrinkles, dehydration, or redness. Due to its small molecular size, the product allows for deeper penetration into the skin and serums often contain powerful ingredients like peptides, hyaluronic acid, or anti-oxidants to target problem areas. The product is typically applied after cleansing, prior to a moisturiser.
Concentrates
While similar to serums, a concentrate usually only contains one ingredient in a powerful concentrated form. Ingredients like Vitamin C, Vitamin E, or Rosehip are used to target specific problems in the skin and can be used alone or in conjunction with a serum or as a spot treatment.
Whether you’re wanting to boost your skin’s day-to-day appearance or soak up the long-term effects of powerful ingredients, there’s no doubt that skin oils, serums, and concentrates are the ideal way to add a little oomph into your daily skin routine.
