What to expect from Apple’s iPhone X event

0

Apple is just a few hours away from its biggest launch event in years.

The company is expected to unveil three new iPhones – the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X – as well as a new Apple TV, Apple Watch, AirPods and animated emoji.

We’ll most likely also be getting another look at iOS 11 and there are rumours circulating that Apple might even unveil a brand new iPod Touch (it is just a rumour, so definitely take this one with a grain of salt).

Apple’s “lower” end iPhones, rumoured to be called iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, are expected to be very similar to current generation iPhones, it’s the special ten-year anniversary edition iPhone – iPhone X – that has all the magic:

  • 3D tracking technology This, along with Face ID, might be used to unlock the phone instead of the traditional home button / fingerprint scanner
  • An edge-to-edge display screen that covers the majority of the front of the phone much like Samsung’s Galaxy S8 / 8+ and Note 8, as well as LG’s G6 and V30
  • No home button Apple, like Samsung, has been trying to embed the fingerprint scanner in the screen
  • Wireless charging, which is already used for the Apple Watch and could now finally be integrated into iPhone
  •  AR Apple has already announced that they are working on augmented reality and it’s expected that the iPhone X will integrate an AR camera into the device

The latest version of the Apple Watch, Watch 3, is expected to look virtually the same as its predecessors but to come with built-in LTE. This means that you might be able to make calls etc on the new Watch.

The all new Apple TV is expected to finally get 4K capabilities, bringing it in line with many other set-top boxes currently on the market.

It seems like the new iPhone launch will be jam packed! If you’re interested in seeing Apple’s latest products, you can watch the livestream – which starts at 7Pm SAST – in the Safari browser by clicking on this link
