Description
In this short story, the headmaster of a school is hanged on Hallowe'en and many people are either hated or feared by him. Inspector Ramsay is convinced it was the headmaster's wife who did it, but school governor and caretaker Jack Robson is determined to prove her innocence. He uses his daughter, Patty, to help him dig into the secrets of the school and uncovers a cesspit of lies, adultery, blackmail, and madness.
