Description
The essential oil is made from the leaves of the Eucalyptus globulus tree. It has a strong, camphorous aroma that is used to help soothe a sore throat and reduce swellings. It is also used to help with asthma, bronchitis, colds, congestion, coughs, headaches, inflammation, sinusitis, and shingles. The oil can be used in an oil warmer or burner, in a steam inhaler for colds and congestion, in unscented bath salts and creams, in a carrier oil to make massage or bath & body oils, and to clean wooden floor boards. It is safe to use during pregnancy, but should not be ingested and should not be used by people with epilepsy.
Eucalyptus is a fragrant herb with a slightly sweet smell, but the essential oil has a stronger, more camphorous aroma. The antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties of Eucalyptus can help soothe a sore throat and reduce swellings (which is why it is often found in throat lozenges).
