This study assesses the performance of the Southern soldiers in the American Civil War of 1861, dealing with every aspect of an army from its senior officers to the lowliest private, taking the reader through the process every Southerner passed through as he tried to adapt to military life, train, and to overcome his enemy on the field. Focusing on the Army of Tennessee, th ebook attempts to explain how the Southern soldier was trained, and what ramifications this had for Confederate strategy, tactics and leadership.
