This study of feminist issues in translation theory and practice argues that feminist theory challenges the traditional view of authority in translation, allowing translators to be literary activists and to create new lines of transmission. It includes a critical overview of cultural theories in translation, and looks at the role of culture-brokers such as Aphra Behn, Madane de Stael, Eleanor Marx and Gayatri Spivak.
