This book is aimed at students and professionals in the built environment who wish to develop their management and business skills. If we are to thrive in the rapidly changing world in which we live, we may need the skills and knowledge to intervene and to stake a greater control over our own development. This book is designed to help you to reflect upon your learning, to explore ways of learning and to make plans for your own personal growth and development. To enable you to do this the book is organized around three themes: Chapters 1, 2 and 3: Learning how to manage yourself. Chapters 4, 5 and 6: Learning how to build and work in teams. Chapters 7, 8, 9 and 10 : Learning about the principal areas of business management. Each of these themes is illustrated by examples and workpieces drawn from the built environment. Checklists are provided in each chapter to help you to reflect on your level of knowledge and understanding of this subject. Management and Business Skills is aimed primarily at first year (level 1) undergraduates. However, we are aware that the various professions involved with the built environment have different requirements for management education and training. T
