FX format
The Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR is full frame (FX format) lens. Nikon's full frame lenses can be mounted on Nikon professional bodies (FX), or even cropped sensor (DX) bodies. When the lens is mounted on a DX crop camera the focal length gets boosted to 36-105mm (35mm equivalent).
Fast f/2.8 maximum aperture
The Nikon 24-70mm ED VR features a fixed fast maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout the entire zoom range. This makes the lens capable of capturing up to four times as much light than most standard zoom lenses, making the lens ideal for low/dim light shooting.
Exceptional optical quality
Two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements minimizes chromatic aberration to deliver superior sharpness and colour reproduction.
Four aspherical lens elements (One ED aspherical, three normal aspherical) corrects various lens aberrations such as lateral chromatic aberration, coma flare at the periphery, as well as distortion and spherical aberration.
A Nano Crystal coat is applied to eliminate internal lens element reflections to effectively reduce ghosting and flares.
A fluorine coating effectively repels dust, water droplets, grease or dirt, ensuring easy removal even when they adhere to the lens surface. The fluorine coat is also anti-reflective and helps to the capture clear images.
4 Stop Vibration Reduction
The Vibration Reduction (VR) system in the 24-70mm ED VR reduces camera shake/movements to decrease blur. The VR system is rated at a 4 stop equivalent and enables users to shoot shutter speeds at up to 16 times slower than non-VR/IS lenses, and still get sharp and blur free images.
Electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism
An electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism is incorporated into the lens to enable stable and reliable auto-exposure (AE) with high-speed continuous shooting.
Silent Wave Motor
All AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon's SWM which enables high-speed autofocusing that's both extremely accurate, and super quiet.
Internal Focusing (IF)
All optical movement is limited to the interior of the non-extending lens barrel. This allows for a more compact, lightweight construction with a closer focusing distance, and makes using tinted/polarised filters a breeze.
