The essays in this volume explore how people use music to heal themselves and whether the healing powers of music are universal or culturally specific. The contributors approach the topic from social, cultural and historical backgrounds and include case studies from the Bolivian Andes, Africa and Western Europe, as well as an assessment of the role of Islamic traditions in Western practices.
