Firefly is a science fiction television series created by Joss Whedon that aired on Fox from 2002 to 2003. The series follows the adventures of the crew of the Serenity, a small transport ship that becomes involved in a number of adventures across the galaxy. The first novel in the series, "Big Damn Hero", was released in 2009 and tells the story of the Battle of Serenity Valley, which is the turning point that led to the Independents' defeat at the hands of the Alliance.
