Description
This whisky is made from a combination of malted barley and corn, and is double-matured in first-fill American oak casks. It is then matured for an additional 18 to 30 months in new first-fill American oak casks. Bain's Cape Mountain whisky has won awards for its excellent value and taste.
Bains is distilled in column stills and uniquely double matured. The whisky is matured in first-fill American Oak casks previously used for the maturation of bourbon, first for three years before being revatted into a fresh set of casks for a further 18 to 30 months.
Produced at the James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington, Western Cape, this excellent value-for-money, award-winning single grain has helped put SA whisky on the map and is playing a role in the gaining popularity of grain whisky. Matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks for 3 years, and then filled into another set of first-fill ex-bourbon casks for a few more years for an additional dose of flavour.
Some tasting notes from the experts.
Nose:Combination of toffee, floral and vanilla.
Palate:A hint of cardamom spice softened by the sweet undertones of oak. Soft and well-rounded with more vanilla, pear and apple.
Finish:A warm and extended mouth-feel with a balanced finish and lingering sweet citrus.
