Description
The St Michael the Archangel Medal is a guardian medal that is worn by Catholics. The medal differs slightly in size from other medals, being 2.5cm long x 1.5cm wide. The medal is made of metal and is decorated with a 13th-century Byzantine icon from Saint Catherine's Monastery. The icon depicts Michael, the archangel, venerated in Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and other religions. The medal was canonized in pre-congregational saint in 1184 and is celebrated on November 8 (New Calendar Eastern Orthodox Churches) / November 21 (Old Calendar Eastern Orthodox Churches), September 29 (Michaelmas), and May 8 (Tridentine Calendar) / 12th of each month in the Coptic calendar. The medal is also patronized by the Guardian of the Catholic Church, Guardian of Vatican City, protector of the Jewish people, Germany, France, Ukraine, Brussels, Kiev, Arkhangelsk, Argao, Cebu, Philippines, police officers, military, grocers, mariners, paratroopers, sickness, and many other local and historical feasts.
