Description
The book tells the story of the Secret Societies of Horsemen who were the Original Horse Whisperers. The Societies were formed originally in the North East of Scotland about two hundred years ago but spread rapidly throughout Scotland and then to East Anglia and throughout Britain, and across to the United States. The roots of the Societies are obscure but many of the customs and oaths may go back to pagan times. The ploughmen who formed these groups came to exploit their membership much like a primitive trade union and used their membership to improve their conditions on the farm. New members of the Societies were told a secret `magic' word under severe oath of silence which, when whispered in the horse's ear, seemed to give each new horseman immediate and total control over his horse. Russell Lyon investigates this `Word' and the mythology behind it and reveals the secret knowledge that the horsemen who were the Original Whisperers used to make their horses obey their master's command - instantly and without hesitation.
