De Grendel has released a new addition to their flagship range, the Grenl Amanlboord Pinotage - Single, in honor of Sir De Villiers Graaff's grandfather. This wine is made from Pinotage grapes, a favorite of Sir De Villiers Graaff, and is inspired by memories of the Almond Orchard where he used to go horse riding with his grandfather. The wine is created by De Grendel's cellarmaster Charles Hopkins and is described as exceptionally balanced and elegant, reflecting the unique terroir of De Grendel. It is recommended to age for 5 to 8 years, but is currently accessible with aromas of plum sauce, tobacco, blackberry, tar, and licorice. The wine has a succulent and juicy full-bodied texture with ripe, soft tannins and a pleasing finish. It is available in a 750ml bottle.
An exceptionally exciting new addition to De Grendel'sflagship range, marking not only the cellars 10th anniversary, but also made tohonour Sir De Villiers Graaffs grandfather and namesake, the 2nd Baronet, Sir De Villiers Graaff.
Pinotage, especially if it was from the Durbanville Ward, was a favourite cultivar of his grandfather. The wine isinspired by fond memories of the Almond Orchard through which the young Sir De Villiers Graaff would go horse riding with his grandfather.
De Grendel cellarmaster Charles Hopkins was only too happy to oblige in the creation of this exceptionally balanced and elegant example of the South African cultivar, which is a reflection of De Grendels unique terroir, predicting that it will be one "to write home about".
Although exceptionally accessible now, the wine will reward ageing for 5 to8 years.Dense in colour and bold in flavour with forthcoming aromas of sweet and spicy plum sauce, tobacco, blackberry, tar and licorice.
