Wolfburn Batch 458 is a 50/50 blend of whisky matured for seven years in first-fill Pedro Xim*nez sherry butts and lightly-peated spirit matured in first-fill bourbon barrels. The whisky was released in a limited quantity of 5,100 bottles. The whisky has a rich, sweet flavor with a depth of flavor that is truly exceptional. The nose has notes of treacle and coffee, accompanied by subtle tones of cherry and dried spice. The palate is full of hazelnut, almonds and cloves, with soft peat smoke present. The tannins are subtle, allowing the whisky to develop beautifully. The finish is sweet and treacle-y, with hints of spice lingering until the end.
The seventh small-batch release from Wolfburn, Batch 458 has been crafted from a 50/50 combination of whisky matured for seven years in first-fill Pedro Xim*nez sherry butts, married with lightly-peated spirit matured in first-fill bourbon barrels.These casks produced just 5,100 bottles in total and the result is a rich, sweet single malt with a truly exceptional depth of flavour.
Nose: Treacle and coffee notes lead the way, accompanied by subtle tones of cherry and dried spice. A heady aroma, full of promise.
Palate: Hazelnut, almonds and cloves are all present, wonderfully overlaid with soft peat smoke. The tannins are subtle, allowing the palate to develop beautifully. Give it time and the full extent of the flavours will reveal themselves.
Finish:Treacle sweetness remains present until the end accompanied by hints of spice. A trace of peat smoke continues to linger when all else is gone.
