Top Gun is a 1986 American action film directed by Tony Scott and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The screenplay was written by Jim Cash and Jack Epps, based on the story "The Top Gun Story" by Don McPherson. The film stars Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, and Tom Skerritt.
The film tells the story of Pete Maverick Mitchell, a skilled aviator who is passed over for promotion several times, and his training of a new generation of pilots. When they are assigned to fly a mission never before attempted, Maverick must confront his fears and prove himself to his superiors. The film was well-received by critics and won six Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
