Description
The bitumen kit includes a 5 liter container of bitumen, a paint brush, and a membrane. The bitumen is a rubberized water-based bitumen that can be used on walls and floors and to prevent water ingress and dampness from the ground up. It provides protection against corrosion of pipes and structural steel work. The bitumen can also be used on ponds and water reservoirs. The bitumen is thixotropic, meaning that it is a thick liquid when it is first applied, but will thicken as it dries. The bitumen can be applied to concrete, masonry, cementitious screed / renders, galvanized steel, metals, clay and cement bricks, weathered bitumen and existing bituminous waterproofing. The bitumen has limited applications, as it should not be applied if the temperature is below 5 degrees Celsius, and should not be applied onto damp surfaces. The bitumen should also be over coated with Handyman's Aluseal Paint if it is exposed to sunlight or UV.
Description:
Handyman's Bitukote is a rubberised water-based bitumen. It is a multiproofer that can be used on walls and floors and to prevent water ingress and dampness from the ground up. Provides protection against corrosion of pipes and structural steel work. Will provide a waterproof membrane on concrete and brick foundation, retaining walls and parapets, flashings and raw concrete in showers and balconies before tiling. Overcoat with Aluseal.
Features & Benefits:
Cold application
Waterproof - use in pond applications
Tough, flexible, durable
Non-toxic - ideal for koi pond
Thixotropic consistency for horizontal and vertical application
Applications:
Waterproofing of flat roofs, parapets and flashings.
Waterproofing of ponds and water reservoirs.
Sealing of joints between different roofing materials, gutter joints, and roof screws.
Waterproofing and protective coating for below ground foundations. Waterproofing of flat roofs, parapets and flashings
Adhesion:
Concrete, masonry, cementitious screed / renders, galvanized steel, metals, clay and cement bricks,
weathered bitumen and existing bituminous waterproofing.
Limitations:
Do not apply if temperature is below 5 C.
Do not apply onto damp surfaces.
Bitumen compounds have poor UV resistance and therefore must be over coated with a paint if exposed to sunlight or UV.
Due to the tendency of bitumen compounds to bleed through and discolour paints applied over them, we recommend that one over coats with Handyman's Aluseal Paint. If a colour matched acrylic paint is used, apply a primer recommended by the paint manufacturer before painting. What's in the box
