Description
The central venous catheter (CVC) is a long, thin tube that is inserted into a vein in the arm. It is used to give patients intravenous (IV) treatments, such as fluids and medications. The CVC has a number of different parts, including a sterile probe, a set of clamps, and an injection cap. The probe is made up of a single, polyurethane tube. This makes it easy to remove and replace, and it is available in a variety of lengths. The different lengths give doctors different options for where to place the catheter in the patient's vein. The CVC is also next to a set of components needed for percutaneous insertion, such as a needle and a clamp. The CVC is sterilized by exposure to ethylene oxide.
