The herb Oregano that we all know as a great flavour in Mediterranean cuisine is a valuable addition to our diet as it has excellent antibacterial properties and is an aid to digestion.
The essential oil derived from the wild Oreganum Vulgare has a wide spectrum of benefits. Oregano has the highest content of phenols of all the oils from herbs.
It can be added to either your usual cleaning products or a mix of oils and vinegar to create a very powerful antibacterial cleaner for the home.
Besides being antibacterial, it is anti fungal and antiviral, and as such is very effective in treating athletes foot and nail fungus.
As Oregano oil is anti inflammatory, diluted in a carrier oil such as almond or coconut it can be applied to any painful area, ie rheumatic joints or sore muscles, also to relieve allergic reactions.
Used as a vapour inhalation it is good for colds and sinus problems, and acts as a decongestant.
A few drops in water makes a good mouthwash for toothache and sore throats.
Use as an insect repellent, also to fight parasites and infections.
Constituents:
Thymol, carvacrol, terpenes, rosmarinic acid
