Description
London was once the brewing capital of the world, and Porter was king. Named after porters who worked Londons streets, it was the most popular beer in the world and the first style of beer to travel the globe.
Soul Barrel's Old London Porter is a recreation of this legendary beer. The historical recipe is based on how the beer was brewed in the 1800s, with a special blend of roasted, kilned, dark caramel and slightly smoked malts, representing historical malting methods.
It was aged in an oak barrel with the wild yeast Brettanomyces or British yeast. This long secondary fermentation ripens the flavour, adding a leather dryness and overripe cherry fruitiness that balances the chocolate & cocoa malt flavours. Pulling it all together is a roastiness with a touch of hidden smoke, yielding a refined drinking experience. The result is an exceptional, wine-like dark fruit character melded into the chocolate and roasty malt notes.
