Description
This classic collection of over thirty stories, legends, and folk- tales reflects the season around Easter and early summer. The stories are arranged in four parts, following the cycle of the festivals at this time of the year. Some are stories in the context of the Easter events and show the effect of these events on human hearts. Folktales from around the world illustrate on an imaginative level the theme of sacrifice and the triumph of love and loyalty over adversity. Many of the stories have the recurring motif of the resurrection, in which the character throws off an outer skin and emerges as a new, truer, and shining self. Included are tales by the Grimm brothers, Tolstoy, Chekov, and Selma Lagerlf, among others. (Ages 9-14)
