Emilio Izaguirre is a Honduran footballer who plays as a left back for Scottish Premier League side Celtic. He has represented his country at the 2010 World Cup and the 2007 Gold Cup. Izaguirre started his career at Motagua, where he stayed for seven years. In 2010, Celtic spent 600,000 to bring him to Parkhead. He picked up four major player awards in the 2010-11 season, which was his first season in Scotland. Celtic agreed a four-year contract with Scottish Premier League side Celtic on 18 August 2010, subject to receiving a work permit. He signed for an undisclosed fee and was given the number 3 shirt. He made his SPL debut in a 1-0 victory over Motherwell on 29 August 2010. Izaguirre gave a solid performance that drew plaudits from Celtic manager Neil Lennon and Motherwell manager Craig Brown. On 19 September 2010, Izaguirre set up Anthony Stokes for the winning goal in a 2-1 league victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. In the2010-11 SPL season, Izaguirre achieved a clean sweep of availablesenior player awards as chosen by players, organisations and the Celticsupporters. Izaguirre won both the SPFA Players' Player of the Year andScottish Premier League Player of the Year awards for 2010-11. Thejudging panel for the latter award described Izaguirre as a classact, while Celtic assistant manager Johan Mjallby commented thatIzaguirre could become one of the best players in his position in worldfootball. On 8 May 2011, at Celtic's award ceremony, Izaguirre pickedup the Players' Player of the Year Award. Finally, he was votedScottish Football Writers player of the year, rounding off a highlysuccessful first season in Scottish football for Izaguirre.
