Description
A micrometer is a precision measuring tool that can measure a range of lengths from 0-25mm. The readout is digital and the accuracy is 0.001mm-0.01mm. The micrometer is most commonly used to measure the size of objects, but can also be used to measure the dimensions of parts. Before using the micrometer, make sure the workpiece is clean and free of burrs. The temperature of the workpiece is also important, as it affects the accuracy of the measurements.
Micrometer
Range: 0-25mm
Readout: Digital and analog
Accuracy: 0.001mm - digital
              0.01mm - analog
Application:
A micrometer generally provides greater precision than a vernier caliper, but can measure a smaller range of lengths.
Before using a micrometer:
- Make sure the workpiece being measured is clean and has no burrs on the edges.
- The temperature of the workpiece is required to be around 20°C to have consistent measuring results.
- Precision measuring tools should never be put near a magnetic area to avoid the micrometer being magnetized.
