Description
The author provides a summary of water testing services that they offer through their affiliate laboratory in Cape Town. The services include conductivity, total dissolved solids, turbidity, total suspended solids, alkalinity, free and saline ammonia, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, chloride, sulphate, nitrate and nitrite, fluoride, and aluminium and iron. The tests may differ depending on the source of the water, and biological activity may be higher than actual activity at the time the sample was taken. The entire process may take between 3-4 weeks, and the author recommends a 1L or 1.5L bottle to provide enough sample for all the tests to be done. If you have any queries, feel free to contact them.
We provide water testing via our affiliate laboratory in Cape Town. The results are supplied with a comparison to either WHO QC Standard Bottling Guideline Limits or SANS 241 2006 Class-0 Standard.Standard potable tests include the following:
- Conductivity (S/cm)
- Total Dissolved Solids (TDS @ 105 C)
- H
- Turbidity (NTU)
- Total Suspended Solids (TSS)
- Alkalinity (Total as CaCO3)
- Free & Saline Ammonia (NHx as N)
- Calcium (as Ca)
- Magnesium (as Mg)
- Sodium (as Na)
- Potassium (as K)
- Chloride (as Cl)
- Sulphate (as SO4)
- Nitrate & Nitrite (NO3 + NO2 as N)
- Fluoride ( as F)
- Aluminium (Al) (g/)
- Iron (Fe) Total (g/)
- Manganese (Mn) Total (g/)
- Total Heavy Metal Content (g/)
- Active Chlorine (HOCl)
- Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC)
- Disinfectant by-products (Total)
- Total Microbial Count (TMC)
- Total Coliforms
- Total Faecal Coliforms
- Total Macro-biological Count
- Moulds & Yeasts
Tests above may differ depending on the source of the water (borehole, dam, river, municipal) all variants.
Due to transportation delays, biological activity tests may be higher than actual activity at time the sample was taken. The procedure is as follows:
- You send us the sample either hand-delivered or by courier.
- We send the sample to our affiliate lab in Cape Town.
- The sample enters the analytical queue.
- The sample is analysed and results and recommendations are generated.
- Results are sent to us and we forward a copy to you via email.
The entire process can take between
3 - 4 weeks average depending on size of the queue, it may take longer. How do you take the sample? If you do not have a sterilized bottle you can simply purchase a bottle of RO3 purified water from any store, drink it and use that bottle. Once the sample has been taken it must be kept in a refrigerator to minimize bacterial growth, it must then be delivered as soon as possible to us, within 24hrs if possible (hand-to-hand, overnight courier or speed services counter-to-counter is usually best). We recommend a 1L or 1.5L bottle to provide enough sample for all the tests to be done, please do not send more than 2L as it will affect courier costs. You can see a sample of the results byclicking here.If you have any queries feel free to contact us.
