Description
This is a description of a math teaching tool called MABs or Multi-base Arithmetic Blocks. These blocks are used to teach children how to trade/exchange place value in numbers. They come with a handy guide that helps children understand the concepts.
When children initally undertake the learning of numbers it's generally done bu some kind of continuum, where the numbers just go on and on and on. Rote learning of numbers does not necessarily introduce the children to the importat structure of our number system, grouping of tens, hundreds, thousands and so on. MAB (Multi-base Arithmetic Blocks) otherwise known as Base 10 materials are one of the most commonly found pieces of equiment in schools.
This powerful visual model is an exellent approach to introducing and reinforcing trading/exchanging of place value in numbers.
